About
At the heart of the Bronx lies Country Thyme Cuisine, a hidden gem that brings the rich flavors of Jamaican and Caribbean home cooking straight to your plate. This modest spot, located at 1455 E 222nd St, is more than just a place to grab a meal—it’s a comforting reminder of tradition and family, served with generous portions and genuine care.
What strikes me first about Country Thyme Cuisine is the authenticity of their dishes. From the moment you step in, you sense the soul behind every meal. Dishes like curry goat, jerk chicken, and oxtail come alive with a perfect blend of spices—mild yet flavorful—reminiscent of slow-cooked meals made with love. The inclusion of staples like rice and peas, boiled provisions, and steamed veggies ensures a balanced and hearty experience that truly honors Jamaican culinary heritage.
The breakfast offerings stand out as well, with dishes like steamed callaloo and saltfish that are both nourishing and satisfying, a great way to start the day. Several customers praise the generous portions, especially for meals like curry goat served in large containers that are filled to the brim—a clear nod to value and customer satisfaction.
Beyond the food itself, what leaves a lasting impression is the thoughtful, community-centered approach of the staff. One customer shared how the cashier went above and beyond to prepare extra chicken for a beloved grandmother, adding a personal touch that transcends ordinary dining. While some have noted a reserved demeanor from the staff, it only accentuates how much emphasis is placed on what matters most here—the quality and taste of the food.
In sum, Country Thyme Cuisine offers a taste of home, made with care, heart, and a deep connection to Caribbean culinary roots. It’s a place where generous servings meet comforting flavors, inviting you to savor both the food and the stories it carries.
“ My grandma is sick and in a home. She asked me specifically for chicken. I randomly found the shop, never being there before. The cashier lady was sooo nice and made extra for her. Nana was so happy. Thank you ”
“ The usual food I get here is curry goat. It’s tasty with mild spice in it and the server gave me a big big big no joke big portion of food. For $10.40 small square container she filled the container up to the top. No wonder she put the cabbages in a separate foil bag. I appreciate that. My only concern was the sweet potato pie I got has white mold. I love sweet potatoes so I scooped out the mold and still ate the pie lol . I feel like the pie is a rip off for $3.40. This size is usually $1.99. Anyways will come back to try other dishes. I was asking if I can have half and half meat cause I wanted to try the beans with feet of chicken. She said they don’t do that. If she’s gonna give me a big portion of the curry goat which I cannot really finish why not just give me little bit of two dish. It’s like paying for two meals in one. Would love to try the other ones. Other places you can have two dishes of meat and rice and veggies with plantain. ”
“ My husband loves getting breakfast here when he is going to work. The food taste delicious and the staff is very polite. They offer jamaican cuisine. You can get curry chicken back, jerk chicken, fish, goat, oxtail, rice and peas, white rice, boiled food/ ground provision, steamed and fresh veggies, baked goods, festival, fritters, soup and porridge. This morning I got steamed calaloo & saltfish with fried dumplings and plantains. Hubby got white rice and curry chicken back. The restaurant can get a little crowdy and you may have to wait a few minutes to be served, but it's worth the wait. Also there is no parking lot available but you can find parking on the street easily. They also sell freshly squeeze juice. Overall I highly recommend them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. ”
“ One of the best breakfast meals I have had in a while The portion is definitely worth your money. Staff might not be friendly but that usually means the food is AMAZING ???????? ”
